Auto Agent Hardware, Tuning Files and Cables Explained

A tuning setup has several parts, and owning one does not mean the others are included. Before requesting Cummins HD tuning or hardware, separate the device, vehicle cable, tuning work and applicable LYNK option. This makes it easier to describe what you already have and what you need quoted.

The Auto Agent is the interface

EZ LYNK describes Auto Agent as the interface between the vehicle and its apps. Technician-provided updates are separate, and the available functions depend on the vehicle and ECU. The manufacturer's Auto Agent overview explains that distinction.

HDTruckTunes offers Auto Agent 3 hardware. An AA3 request by itself does not include our custom tuning files. When requesting tuning, identify the device generation you have rather than writing only Auto Agent.

The cable connects a particular setup

The HD 9-pin adapter offered by HDTruckTunes is for AA3 only. It is not advertised for Auto Agent 1 or 2. The connector on the truck and the complete setup require review; a truck's make or the description 9-pin alone does not confirm suitability.

A cable-only request is for the cable hardware. It does not add an AA3, tuning files or a tuning-related LYNK fee. Tell us the exact device generation and connector details before the cable is quoted.

Custom tuning is a separate service

HDTruckTunes creates tuning files in-house for reviewed Cummins heavy-duty applications. The installed engine, ECM, existing calibration, modifications and goals determine the review. A device or cable purchase does not establish engine or method compatibility.

See the EZ LYNK tuning page and Cummins HD support scope. Pickups and light-duty trucks are outside this service.

The LYNK option belongs with an EZ LYNK tuning request

The form offers 4-Week and Unlimited LYNK choices with EZ LYNK tuning. The quote identifies the selected option and its fee. Owning an AA3 does not remove the tuning charge or the applicable LYNK charge. A hardware-only request does not add a tuning-related LYNK fee.

If you need help choosing an option, include the question for review and confirm how the selected option applies to your request before payment.

Four common request examples

  • You own an AA3 and a reviewed cable: identify both and request the tuning service and applicable LYNK option. Do not select a new AA3.
  • You own an AA3 but need a cable: identify the device, describe the truck connector, and request the AA3-only cable review along with any tuning you need.
  • You need an AA3 and cable: request those hardware items and specify separately whether custom tuning is also needed.
  • You need only the cable: request the cable, identify the AA3 and connector, and provide the shipping destination. Tuning and a tuning-related LYNK option are separate.

Shipping follows the hardware you buy

Digital tuning alone has no hardware shipping charge. Cable-only shipping covers the purchased cable. When a new AA3 and cable are fulfilled together from the same origin, they can be packed in one box; the quote confirms the shipment and charge.

Hardware delivery is confirmed for the US and Canada. UK hardware delivery needs separate confirmation. Shipping is quoted before payment, rather than treated as a completed charge when the request is saved.

What to do if the setup is unclear

List the equipment names and generations you can confirm. Describe the diagnostic connector, provide a clear photo when needed, and mark missing details as unknown. Read the request checklist.

If you are weighing a laptop route, read EZ LYNK versus remote tuning. A reviewed J1939 laptop setup should not be assumed interchangeable with AA3 hardware.
